| The South Asian Awareness Network (SAAN) is one of the nation’s most prominent non-profit, student- run organizations about issues important to the South Asian community across the world. Established in 2002, SAAN brings together more than 500 people from corporations, academic institutions, and non- profit organizations. Keynote and workshop speakers have included some of America’s most thoughtful and innovative writers, artists, musicians, politicians, activists, and businesspeople. |

| During the SAAN Conference, participants attend a series of workshops, discussion groups, and speaker presentations covering a wide array of topics, from healthcare to education to politics and social action. All of these issues relate in some way to South Asians in their native countries or in the Diaspora. The vibrancy of each year’s conference appeals to individuals of different identities from within and outside of Michigan. |

| This year’s conference, Catalyst for Change, will take place January 25-27 at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. SAAN 2008 will challenge participants to discover how interpersonal, transnational, and cross-cultural interactions involving South Asians have affected the global community. Dialogue and collaboration at this year’s conference will encourage informed participants to actively engage in the world at large. From global to personal levels, SAAN 2008 will serve as a catalyst for change. |

| As the SAAN 2008 conference comes to an end, Central Planning Team would encourage passionate and interested applicants to apply for the SAAN 2009 Chair position. Details of the position can be found in the linked application. Deadline for the application submission is Sunday, February 17th, 2008. Interviews by Central Planning Team will take place on Monday, February 18th-20th, 2008.
