Well, here we are in a brand new, exciting year! It’s 2012 and the anticipation is high for this being the year that we begin to see prosperity rebound throughout the country and the world. In the U.S. we are seeing interest in the skilled trades resurge. HVAC Training Schools, Electrical Trade Schools, Plumbing Trade Schools are all looking a bit more attactive as the cost of college continues to skyrocket, while the job market for graduates becomes more scarce.
Over the course of time entering into the skilled trades fields has been promoted less, with high school counselors opting to pronounce college as the only viable path to success. And why wouldn’t they see it through these rose-colored glasses? College worked for them, their peers, their family. It is very unfortunate to see these college graduates, stradled with hundreds of thousands of dollars in student loan debt, unable to find jobs that justify this bloated expense. However, on the positive half of the glass, it is great to see these guidance counselors waking up to the fact that in 2012 perhaps having a job that cannot be outsourced, and that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to obtain, is truly a wonderful career path for many of our youth.
